Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM): Advancing the Future of Photon Detection
A Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) is a highly sensitive solid-state photodetector designed to detect and measure extremely low levels of light, down to single photons. SiPMs have become a breakthrough technology in modern photonics, offering superior performance compared to traditional photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) while being compact, durable, and energy-efficient.
SiPMs consist of an array of avalanche photodiodes (APDs) operating in Geiger mode, which allows them to achieve high gain and fast response times. Each microcell in the array detects a single photon and generates a uniform electrical pulse, making the SiPM capable of precise photon counting and excellent timing resolution.
